WHAT MAKES A GOOD MENTOR

Before becoming a mentor, here are a few things to understand about the role of mentorship. Most of us have had a teacher, supervisor, or coach who has been a type of mentor to us and made a positive impact in our lives. Those people wore many hats, acting as delegators, role models, supporters, advocates, and friends. Mentors assume these different roles during the course of a relationship, and share some basic qualities:

As a mentor for Suits for Seniors, I will always act in a manner that is in the best interest of my student.

I will notify Suits for Seniors if I must terminate my mentor assignment for any reason.

I will advise Suits for Seniors early, if the mentor-mentee match is not a good fit.

I will notify my student if I am not able to keep an in-school appointment with him/her.

I will refrain from arranging contact with my mentee or his/her family off school property and not under the supervision of Suits for Seniors staff or a concerned adult.

I will NOT transport my student in my car.
